Somehow more infuriated by musicians seemingly focused-grouped and scientifically designed to make people who spend too much money on coffee feel good about their cultural capital than anyone else, music-wise. See also: Mumford and Sons. Say what you will about Nickelback, they’ve never tried to be cool.
Ironically, I love expensive coffee and, say, cinephiles would probably dub my taste in films unbearably middlebrow.
You, uh, championed Beginners last week, right?
If every movie made me feel the way that one did, I’d own 10,000 Blu-Rays.
But I also think that the filmmakers I follow who are striving to make idiosyncratic-yet-populist art (Wes Anderson, Gondry, Mills, Aronofsky, whoever) are actually brilliant and talented, whereas I imagine whoever writes Mumford and Sons’ songs lucked into hearing a couple of Van Morrison records in college. The quality level between, say, the Oscars and the Grammys is generally hilariously incompatible.
